Photographer's Note

Prospekt of the Enlightenment (Проспект Просвещения) is the name of the street shown above, though it might refer in a less figurative way to the drawn-out late summer twilight (probably around 10 p.m. when this was taken). Located near the northern edge of St.Petersburg, the street is far from the picturesque areas familiar to tourists. I remember the street from daily commutes to an in-law's apartment. The buses and trolleys weren't running too often when we were heading home, so we usually had to walk a couple of km from the metro station. When I look closely at the photo, it seems dated because of all the domestic cars. St. Petersburg has a lot more foreign-made cars now, at least in the center of the city.
