Photographer's Note
Differently from European and North American beach life where most of the people wear as little as possible to get some tan or to show off their super slim body, most Filipino's and maybe other Asians as well, tend to cover more of their body when on the beach.
One of the reasons to wear more clothes on the beach is that many Filipino's don't like to get a tan, they rather have their skin as light as possible, to look more European, where as Europeans and Americans think the other way around.
At this part of the beaches of Panglao there were hardly any foreign tourists. Appearantly they prefer to go to the better known Alona Beach, only a few kilometers away from this beach, where there are also several diving resorts. At dumaluan beach (this one) you will mainly find locals and therefore a different kind of beach life compared to what most of us here at TE are used to in Europe and Northern America.
It is up to oneselve to explore a different culture or stay safe in your "well known and safe" tourist world.

you are definitely right about asians (well particularly, the Filipinos) all wrapped up when on the beach! there are few tho who have been "infected" with the western culture daring to go bare a bit, sometimes 'competing' as well with their western conterparts. we always have the notion that UV rays are harmful to the skin and this maybe the reason why very few our color get skin cancer as much compared to others... or maybe you are right, some want to keep the color of skin light...:-) the common Filipino on the other hand cannot afford the luxurious highly priced tourist beach resorts ie, alona beach, bohol beach club or the panglao nature's beach.
i admire you for trying at least to look what it's like on the other side of the beach. good work, Harko.

hej Harko,
hej Anders

Hi Harko, thanks for visiting my TE site.
I find this one very interesting because you share your views of different behaviors of people living in different parts of the globe and wanted to write a note. Read through the critiques and I guess I'll stay with the photograph itself because its a never ending story...
A very inetresting shot capturing here three or four groupings busy with their own 'micro-interests' of friends and families. The cloud on the right is really nice and maybe basing on the landscape in the background, you must be in the northern part of the island where you can see the main island of Bohol, I've been there once but in the more popular segment of the beach and I see that the sand here is as good as that one and also you get into direct contact with the real daily life of the locals there. Were you able to buy some fresh fish sold there early in the morning?
Thanks for sharing...Alex

Dag Harko,
prachtige strandfoto vol kleuren en leven. De lucht zou wat meer mogen worden aangezet naar mijn smaak, maar verder vind ik hem geweldig.
groeten gerrit
