Photographer's Note
This was taken in a village up in the cloud forest in the mountains in one of the central islands of the Philippines. We went up the mountains to scout for retirement real estate up in the mountains of Panay Island ... we were talking to the barrio captain (village leader) when people started to surround us and gawk. I spied this girl in one corner keenly observing, I discretely raised my camera and took a photograph.
It is a little bit difficult to take a photograph of children in melancholy poses like this in the Philippines because they readily oblige and pose for you and flash that smile that melts your heart. But once in a while you can get something like this.

The soft focus is really nice here, Ken--who says we need sharpness all the time? It's a beautiful portrait of wistfulness, with great colors and textures to complement the girl's face. The tight quarters of the shot suggest that her world is constrained. Well done! Regards, Ken.
