Photographer's Note

A practice polo game in Chitral, NWFP. As I mentioned before, polo is more popular in the Northern Pakistan than cricket. Almost everyone kept telling me that the polo played here has practically no rules compared to a more civilised version of polo played elsewhere in Pakistan and in the UK, for example. I don't know any polo rules so I didn't notice much difference...

The two most famous polo teams are in Gilgit and Chitral. Two of them get together during the famed Shandour Polo festival each summer, at the world's highest polo grounds in Shandour Pass (over 3,000 mtrs high). Sometimes Gilgit wins, sometimes Chitral.

When I stayed in Chitral they had practice games virtually every evening. Starts around 5 pm, have a look if you are in the area!
