Photographer's Note
The day before our attempt to reach the summit of Ama Dablam (6856m) in the Khumbu Himalaya, I spent a couple of hours climbing up the SE ridge to take some photographs. The late afternoon haze created a very atmospheric scene of the many interlocking ridges of the peaks towards the south. After only an hour I had gained quite a lot of height and in this shot you can see the dots that are our base camp tents below the middle of the picture.
