Photographer's Note
As I was sitting drinking tea across the valley in Sanasa, I heard a loud rumble and spat out the mouthful of hot liquid I was about to swallow.
The sound was so loud and unearthly that the adrenaline in my blood stream was insisting that I got up and ran in the opposite direction as fast as I possible could.
In an attempt to calm my fleeing body I looked up at Thamserku, the Himalayan giant towering above me, and saw the billowing could of snow expanding on the steep mountain face.
The glacier that you can see tumbling down from right to left down the mountain, suddenly let go a massive serac, or ice cliff and I watched as it came crashing down onto the glacier below. The power and violence was magnificent and anyone near at that moment would have been killed instantly.

Wow that's well captured. I think a polariser would have helped here instead of a UV filter. I keep one permanently screwed on when I am in the mountains.

Intense!! I agree with fijiphil about the polariser :), but who has time for that when there's an avalanche occuring right in front of you! Thanks for sharing!

Wow, wouldn't like to try and outrun this one! Must have been a sight to see (and hear!) Excellent shot taken under the circumstances and it just proves that you must have your camera with you at all times. Superb capture of a decisive moment... I'm impressed with your preparedness. It does seem like a polarizer would have helped here but I always just have the UV on the mountains too. You can saturate in PP. Best wishes, Hakan.

I envy your luck and your cold blood to remember to catch the moment with the camera.
The exposure is perfect - no unviewable shades.
The image is almost monochromatic blue - did you force this to happen?

This is a magnificent capture, where you were in the right place at the right time.
I'm late to comment on this photo as you submitted almost a year ago. But I still have to give you two points for this. Good colours, and the cloud of snow is breathtaking.

Truly stunning and stupendous moment, the photo must hardly convey the sheer strenght of such a spectacular mass, but you definitely had the right reaction to picture it for our enjoyment :D
