Photographer's Note

One could spend a week exploring Inle lake, villages and nearby towns and still only scratch the surface.

Of numerous interests, meeting various tribes is one of the highlights. Among them the Kayan, who are composed of four main subgroups: Lahta, Kekhu, Kangan and the Lahwi, who are the most conspicuous for wearing brass coils.

From the Myanmar Times, here's an exert from a Kayan woman about this tradition.

“In my opinion, the brass coils that our ancestors wore will be consigned to museums and postcards in the next 50 years; it will be an exception to see them. This was Kayan, our tradition, our heritage, and I feel sad about this but there seems little prospect of the practice surviving.”
