Photographer's Note

The 116-metre-tall statue (+13.5-meter throne) started construction in 1996 and was completed in 2008. When the statue was inaugurated, it was the tallest in the world (although the Buddha's spring temple, which is taller, was inaugurated in Henan, China, at the same time). Today he is the 3rd tallest statue in the world. An elevator passes the visitor through the many floors in the statue's body, and you can see the windows of the museum inside, on his cloak. Allowing access for tourists, the statue provides a panoramic view of the town of Khatakan Taung.
