Photographer's Note
Photography for Beginners
--------------------- PfB 3 ---------------------
Updated 2008-9-21. Very important lesson about early morning photography, always bring a tripod! The dim lights need a slow shutter speed and a tripod is a must. I thought the arch was a good feature to aim and placed the palms on each side. The sky was okay without being over exposed here. Yes, the pole at the left side could be avoided. Higher f/10 would give starry effect on the street lights.
Mistakes?
.avoid placing arch in centre unless find a symmetry
.avoid habit shooting snap shots, be more artistic
.try lighting effects by varying camera settings
.try both : under and over exposed to learn
.quick way is +1/3, +1, then vice-versa
.no pole placed in middle of the arch please!
How about you show me a garden photo too?

Welcome Bill,
It's great to see another Sarawakian in the TE scene. I have also browsed your blog and I can see you are pretty adventurous, documenting your home state.
Tell you what, in TE there's no right or wrong in composition. The only bad photo is the one which you can't figure out anything at all. :)
By the way, your photo and camera is your best trainer and teacher. Spend more time with it
Welcome to TE again Bill

Hello Lau,
Very good view of the garden at the early dawn! the clarity is good with colour!
If the pillar on the left can be cropped off will be even better to see a neat and clean image!
I loved the soft-toned colour in overrall!
Thank you for sharing
greeting

Hello Bill,
Nice perspective of your early post. The swaying palm trees are converging to that arch with backdrop of street light make this a good composition. Nice fg selection.

Jusni

Olá Bill,
muito bonito esse jardim mesmo, e fotografado num horário especial. Gostei da iluminação do monumento.
Parabéns e Abraço!
