Photographer's Note
Photography for Beginners
------------------ PfB 2 --------------------
Updated 208-9-21. I always find fishing boats anywhere in the world to be colorful and good subject for photography. Challenge is to find a good point of view (POV) to compose a nice shot. Naturally some of you may not be aware of Rule of Thirds in composition for photography. In another series perhaps I would provide some useful links for that topic of reading.
When shooting in bright day, avoid over exposed sky like this one. Camera setting would be one way to do it. Point the focus on the sky would reduce the glare but might darken the boats, so strike a balance or try each and test what mistakes could be made. It is always difficult to shoot against light. So try shooting the same thing with variations of settings and focus points. No better way than learning from mistakes. Your best shot and its result will tell you what went wrong with the spoiled ones.
Early morning normally gives calm still reflection. Late afternoon may give warm light condition. Finding something interesting beside just the boats could be another way of variation in your style, for example, a boatman taking a bath using river water (sometimes that happened). Some trees in the foreground could also be nice. Knowing this place and location now, I would choose late afternoon to shoot.
Abbreviations used that you may not know
POV=point of view
DOF=depth of field
TFS=thanks for sharing
OE=over exposed
UE=under exposed
FG=foreground
BG=background
CU=close up
----------------- Original note ---------------
Caught my attention on a cloudy day. Colorful fishing vessels berthed just behind financial and commercial centers of the city, preparing to go out to sea again.
As I am new, your comments and critiques are all welcome.
Happy viewing! Thanks!

Hello Bill,
Well composed photo of the colorful & weather beaten fishing boats. The sky is a bit overexposed resulting in loss of detail in the clouds. Otherwise a wonderful photo. Welcome to TE. Greetings. Latiff.

Hi Bill,
I had look into the workshop photo, more attractive color after add contrast and reduce bright / gamma, but the frame is bad, too thick.
Thanks write into my photo.

A little overexposed, but a good mood for a 1st post and interesting colors too. I wish you to enjoy TE. Welcome.

the workshop takes care of the high and bland sky area..but the border commmands too much attention
best to resize...forget the pixels growing...there are ways to keep them under control
good grouping and colours..i am not a fan of distracting text on a frame or photo but i realise the reason for this is valid
cheers

Hi ,
Your composition and theme is great but the orst part is , the pic is a bit out of contrast . I mean the colors of the boats are not very highlighted....

Good cadre,and framing also well chosen,maybe too much sky :)

But after, you became my friend, giving to me all support with great critiques/advices and your friendship
