Photographer's Note

The Sea Bajaus are sea gypsies, nomadically making a living around the waters on the eastern shore of Sabah. To them, the sea is everything much as like us landwalker, making the land our home. While for most of us, walking is the first thing after crawling, to these Sea Bajaus, that would probably be swimming.

These Sea Bajaus and other seaborne races along the east coastline of Sabah, the sea is not just a livelihood but a way of life and to their children, a playground.

The child was "launched" by his father. Standing astride his father's shoulder, the child lunged upward with the additional lift from his father's thrusting upward movement. You can see the trough developed from this launch at bottom left.
