Photographer's Note

Sandakan Bay and the town proper, view from the terrace of English Tea House & Restaurant, on the hillside overlooking the what was once the 2nd capital of North Borneo.

The point of view is more or less the same with the drawing of Agnes Keith,depicting Sandakan during the late 1930s, from her book titled "Land Below The Wind".

An excerpt from her book describing Sandakan in Land Below The Wind;
"The harbour of Sandakan lay below me. It was morning, and the water of the bay was motionless and fiat and chromo blue as on a picture postal card. The roofs of the Chinese town were very red in the sun,and the tree-covered cliffs of the coast very green, and in the distance the mass of the jungle was a deeper, duller green."
