‘Vang Vieng - Painting monks’
For Gert,
who likes to see pictures of people at work.
Suddenly I think of an old joke.:
Two recently retired men meet and the first man says ‘All my life I have loved working. Working fascinated me enormously.’ to which the second replies ‘I also find work very fascinating. I can sit and look at people at work for hours and hours’.
I didn’t spend hours looking at these monks, just the time to quickly take this photo.
The photo was taken at the entrance of Wat Si Sou Mang, a Buddhist temple in Vang Vieng.
In the WS a photo of Wat That, the largest temple in town.

Hello Paul,
There's more great color and sunlight in this photo. The colors of the monks clothing jumps out even more since they are in front of white stone. Did they paint all of these objects from top to bottom, or just add some gold trim? Take care!

Now there's something I haven't seen before and that is novice monks wearing saffron cardigans! Nice contrast between the 4 monks and the 4 ornately decorated chedis. The green and red roofs of the bg Wat make a good backdrop. Tfs!

Thanks for the dedication. ;-) This photo jumped at me straight from among the thumbnails, not just because it shows people at work but even more thanks to the bright colours, which I also like. It combines people, colours and culture in a perfect way. The young monks are also well placed in relation to the columns. All elements of this photo make it a natural fav for me.

Wow! What an excellent scene to photograph!
As a photographer, you couldn't have wished for anything better!
The monks are dressed in brightly coloured clothes, dispersed between these tall, religious sculptures and working in beautiful, low sunlight!
The setting gives an excellent sense of place, without distracting one bit from the focal images.
Love the details of the w/s, too.
What an amazing location to tour with your camera!

Hallo Paul,
Een uitstekende foto van deze vier monniken die geduldig de vele details van deze torentjes aan het schilderen zijn. Het zonlicht is heel mooi en helder en laat de gouden tinten en het rood/oranje van de kleren van de mensen heel mooi uitkomen, zeker tegen de achtergrond van groen en blauw.

Considérant l'apparence physique de ces moines je suppose qu'ils exécutent les tâches incombant aux novices, tandis que les hiérarchisés sont occupés à la pratique de lévitation!
Cette image, surprenant par son côté inhabituel de décor asiatique, capte l'attention à cause des teintes éblouissantes.

charming scene showing monks at work. There is so much color in this photo. The clothes are so brightly colored but also the golden colors comes into play. Further back we can spot some more traditional architecture again.

very beautiful these three structure with carvings and goldens. the colors of the people around and the view of the pavilions ahead added a colorful mood to the compo with an intense beauty.
