Photographer's Note

In Laos upcountry wet markets there are only few traders with a large selection. Most of them are small traders like the elderly woman in the FG selling small bird chillies. Most of these women plant some veggies around the house or collect them in the forest. At least the veggies in this evening market are all harvested in Laos, however overall the agricultural output of Laos is rather small and does not cover at all the local demand. Therefore even veggies have to be imported from Thailand or China, what explains the high prices.
