Photographer's Note
I took this picture in a Hmong village close to Ponsavanh and the plain of jarres. This region is known for the archeological site (jarres) but also for the secret war leaded by USA during the vietnam war. US air forces left thousands of non-explosed bombs (UXO or unexplosed ordnance)which still continue to kill people especially children.
Hmong people use rests of bombs to grow plants inside (flowpots)or to make walls, etc... You can see one of these big bombs (not dangerous anymore) just behind the small girl.

Powerful photo! Nicely done. She is more affraid of you then the bomb. :) I realize that bomb is harmless now. I believe Laos is the most bobmed country in the world. It is amazing to see what they do with the scarp metal from all the unexploded bombs. Very resourceful. Nice photo! JP

Hi Laurent,
This is a really good photo. I like the way the girl is hiding shyly behind the column and you can only see one of her eyes. Your note is nice as well. I think a lot of people aren't aware of the huge UXO problem in Laos.

Hi Laurent,
Such a great photo! Although it's very sad, you managed to capture an emotional, powerful portrait of realities of war. I agree with "jcandeli", she looks more afraid of you than the bomb. She can probably pick up the physical resemblance you share with the people who dropped the bombs on their country.
I felt the same way myself, though I don't really have European features..
Well done! My complements!
