Photographer's Note

Wat Ong Teu Mahawihan or temple of the heavy Buddha is one of countless Wats in downtown Vientiane. This name is given to the temple due to the large, bronze Phra Ong Teu Buddha statue seated in this picture, which is the largest Buddha statue in the capital. Initially the Wat has been constructed in the 16th century, which was the golden Age of Buddhisme in Laos. Wat Ong Teu has the basic shape known as the ‘Luang Prabang I style’ with its scare use of brickwork and rectangular-like body.
