Photographer's Note

For the average Laotian the cost of living is very high making sticky rice, bird chillies and some veggies the common diet. Logically eating in even small hawker style eateries is a luxury.

No wonder that there is just one pork butcher in the main market of Vang Vieng as seen in the photograph above. How fresh the meat here really is, nobody can tell you for sure, but it must have been defrosted several times, because there are far too few potential customers. Within one hour there was only this woman inquiring about a slice of pork.
