Photographer's Note
Matsubara Street --as you see-- is a very ordinary street in Kyoto. I like to stroll on this street because there you still can see the very ordinary life of very ordinary Kyotoites.
But this street is not as ordinary as its appearance. Because there is a crossroad of the life and death...
As you see in this picture, there is a small T-shaped intersection. Its name is ROKUDO-NO-TSUJI (the crossroad of the six paths). "Six paths" means the six ways of rebirth (hell, hungry ghosts, beasts, devils, human beings, and heaven) in Buddhist cosmology. People of Kyoto have a legend that there is a passage from this world to another world at this crossroad.
An old shop with some customers in the right of picture is the shop selling "nurturing ghost candy". It also has a legend that a female ghost came there to buy candies for her baby. If you can see a woman in white kimono in this picture, she is....

Hallo Keitaro!
Very interesting photo with an interesting note as well. It's incredible which faiths men have created all over this planet. It's a not spectacular photo but somehow spectacular in another way... I like the many details in this photo.
Greetings from Germany!
Frank
