Photographer's Note
Juzuya-Machi (means "a town of rosary sellers") is a shopping street for monks and Buddhists. There are many shops selling the altar articles, statues, rosaries, and the costumes for monks along the street between the head temples of two major sects of Pure Land Buddhism, the West Hongan-ji Temple(behind the gate in this picture.) and the East Hongan-ji Temple.
Buddhist Rosaries are not only for monks. Japanese people usually bring Buddhist rosaries (of course, without the cross) to attend a funeral.

Yet another lovely photo from you, with a 'Note' that tells us more about the area and 'daily life in Japan'.
You have that 'locals knowledge' about the area, and explain it so well (in such fluent english) to us gaijin that would normally just think 'nice old street' and not know what it's all about.
I will be searching out this street myself when I return to Kyoto in a few weeks (I'm moving to Nagoya next week :-)

This one is interesting - specially in combination with your note. There are so many details to be seen here. An important detail for me is the cleanliness in this street. But where are the customers !?
