Go to temple to pray on the fist day of The New Year, using this kind of Bamboo spoons(!?) and drink the water can bring luck and healthy. That is what people in Japan believe.

Nice shot. Good colors and good DOF.
These spoons are used to clean and "purify" the body (hands, mouth, nose..) before entering a Shinto shrine. The Gods of Japanese Shinto, the Kamis, don't like what is not "pure" (death, blood, dirt, excrements,..)

Actually I like the contrast as it is, its got a punch of dullness to the green which makes it more subtle and matured. Great composition!
I've been to japan when i was 10 yrs old and drank from one (what do you call this bamboo scoop in japanese? curious again) like that from a temple in Kyoto i visited.

Good technical composition and colours, but this is a photo that really does need an explanatory note, since nothing else in the picture puts the subject in context.
