Photographer's Note

After retrieving our luggage at Narita Airport (not far from Tokyo)we felt a little peckish. The display of various sushi, tempura, soba and udon dishes caught our eye. These are all made from various coloured plastic and resin and look so real and fresh. The place looked squeaky clean. We enjoyed our first meal(of real food) in Japan and inaugurated our trip with a small bottle (or two)of warm sake. The lady serving our meal was most friendly, chirpy and very neat. I asked her for a photo and she was both pleased and a little embarrassed that I found her photogenic.

I wanted to start my travelogue with this shot as the woman's smile was the first of countless smiles and warm salutations that I received from the Japanese individuals that I met.

To see our first meal on Japanese soil, see Workshop.
