Photographer's Note

 I had hesitated before post this picture. Because it looks a too stereotyped Kyoto picture. Pagoda, wooden houses, rickshaw.....like a picture on guidebooks.
 But I also love this traditional image, and I want to say that it still be a part of reality of this city.

 Even though there are many high-rise buildings in the downtown, I know that Kyoto still be struggling to keep its old beauty against the big wave of the industrialization and Tokyo-driven globalization.
 This January, the Mayor of Kyoto has proposed a new city ordinance to limit more tightly the height, design and colour of buildings. The city assembly will vote on this proposal in the next few months.
 I hope that whole city will get back its beauty for decades to come.
