Photographer's Note

This photograph was taken on the small island which floats on Seto inland sea in early March of six years ago. If we ride by ferry from the Himeji harbor in Hyogo Prefecture for about one hour, we will arrive at an island called Ieshima. Seto inland sea has many islands of large and small size in the Seto inland sea inserted into Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu. The climate has warm throughout the year, and it has scenic scenery. Moreover, this area is in the leading fish habitants in Japan. So, the fishes which exceed 400-500 kinds live in Seto inland sea. This island belongs to the ocean space of Harimanada located in the eastern part of Seto inland sea. 5600 persons are living in 5.46 km2, and the main industries are fishings. When I walked about 20 minutes from the Ieshima harbor, there was a fishing port where many fishing boats are at anchor as upper photograph. The mountain side of the hill which overlooks a fishing port was crowded with private houses. The local residents who rode on the motorbike were having a pleasant chat on the way in the middle of going to a fishing port. There were also few figures about the alley of an island and the old woman who finished shopping was walking slowly. It looks like the tendency that old people will remain in an island and young people will go away to a city as well as other local region.
