Photographer's Note

Candi Sewu is the second largest Buddhist Temple complex in Indonesia after Borobudur. This 8th-century Mahayana Buddhist temple is located 800 meters north of Prambanan.

Although within the Prambanan park area, it doesn't see that many visitors, most people only visiting Prambanan itself. It's their loss, I suppose, and fortunate for us, as we found our lonely visit here most atmospheric.

As you can see, the temple was severly damaged in the 2006 earthquake and big parts of the ground are still filled with stones and rubble. Quite a puzzle for archeologists!
