Photographer's Note

He claimed to be a "make-up" man and ran through a few expressions for me, this one being the most dramatic.

I spotted this man on the streets of Mathura, a small township surviving on the business of religion. The moment you alight from your vehicle, you are besieged by touts claiming to perform prayers to save your soul...for a few hundred rupees.

In a narrow gali (alley) which was a sea of interesting faces, his vermillion smeared forehead and the wet red sindoor daubed high caught my eye. Most people in this place are used to being shot for coffee table books and are either indifferent or love posing for the camera.

This is my first post, from a weekend trip to Paharganj (Delhi), then Mathura, Agra, and Fatehpur Sikri with Avishek and Maciekda.
