Photographer's Note
A work trip has recently brought me to the mystical banks of the Ganges river in Varanasi.
I can not recall ever being more mesmerised than I was as when I arrived in this holy town. As you discover the city you enter a state of meditation and mystery that captivates your heart and nestles there to stay - for as long as our daily western lives allow.
The guide with whom we floated on the Ganges must be one of the most serene people I have ever met. His wisdom and spirituality have lead to great knowledge as well as extraordinary encounters.
He introduced us to this holy man who has been praying at the same ghat in Varanasi for the last 45 years. Their friendship and bound was touching and inspiring.
The encounter with this wise man and the timeless magic of Varanasi are still circling around my head like a morning mist covering the banks of the Ganges river in its untouchable mysticism.

Beautiful portrait! Great DOF, great colors and nice framing. I especially like his eye brows! ;-)

I like the hour glass shape that this framing makes, like his age on his face and beard are like the sands of time. the colors could be richer and it could be sharper overall, especially in his eyes.

Dag Sabine,
welkom terug in Europa.
prettig weekend,
Luc.

excellent portrait, Sabine, the tight composition nicely focuses viewer's attention on the expression of the man. excellent colour management, the clothes are vivid, while the skin tone is perfectly natural. I would like to have the shot a touch sharper, but that's a minor point. great shot.

Hi Sabine,
a great portrait, well cropped, great colours. Maybe a little too oversaturated.
Cheers Chris

Hello sabine
Stupend amazing portrait picture with stunning live colors and a fantastic compo. The lines of the shape are in a great graphical contrasty double triangles. Great work best regards ihsan

A beautiful portrait, very expressive, and with great capture of colors. I think the eyes are sharp enough, but I do wish he'd been looking at you instead of to the side.
UPDATE: I changed my mind after looking at this some more; I now like the eyes looking off to the side.

Obviously this place of Varanasi had such a profound effect upon you - the portrait is a lovely example of an inverted centrally placed triangle which another lover of Varanasi intriduced me to - Claude Renault......it works nicely with eyes wandering off to his left - we are both drawn to the centre and away from it - as well as up and down - it's an interesting trip for the ye and your subject has all the down to earth mystique of everyday India written into his face......technically the burn on the one side of his moutache lets the iamge down ever so slightly for me but otherwise a fine portrait!
best wishes kev

Great portrait, for two reasons - the first is the incredible vivid colour, especially that red turban. The other great thing about this is the eyes, so visible and looking off to the side. This is a very striking shot!

Great portrait Sabine. I like your crop very much. Colors are typical you! :) That red turban is so good. The texture and the way the light was recorded is really perfect. Can't wait to see more from your Indian pot.
