Haridwar is situated at height of 314 metres from the sea level in Garwhal region. The sacred Ganges flows in this city. According to legend, Haridwar was the place where goddess Ganga descended when lord Shiva released the mighty river from the locks of his hair. Haridwar is regarded as one of the 7 holiest places (Sapta Puri) to Hindus. Haridwar along with Ujjain, Nashik and Allahabad is one of 4 sites where drops of Amrit, the elixir of immortality, accidentally spilled over from the pitcher while being carried by the celestial bird Garuda. This is manifested in the Kumbha Mela, which is celebrated every 12 years in Haridwar. Alcohol and non-vegetarian food are not permitted in Haridwar. Source : wiki. The photo was taken during the Kanvar yatra pilgrimage.
