Photographer's Note
Karni mata temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Karni mata at Deshnoke, a small town of 18 000 inhabitants (2011 census) located 30 km from Bikaner. It is also known as the temple of rats. The temple is famous for the approximately 25,000 black rats that live, and are revered, in the temple. These holy rats are called kabbas, and many people travel great distances to pay their respects. The building dates from the 15th century but was completed in its current form in the early 20th century in the Mughal Rajput style by Maharaja Ganga Singh of Bikaner. In front of the temple is a beautiful marble facade, which has solid silver doors. Source : wiki

Hello Miguel,
I have heard of other Hindu temples where rats are revered, but this one was unknown to me. The entrance gate is quite nice and the persons entering or leaving greatly enliven the view. But of course a photo from inside, showing at least a few hundred of the black rats, would have been... nice.;-) Maybe next time?

Interesting this temple that in terms of shape is strongly reminiscent of the arc de triomphe as we can find it in various places in Europe.
Although rats will undoubtedly live with these European buildings, they are certainly not sacred like they are in the Karni mata temple.

Hello Miguel,
Strange that a rodent that caused the deaths of millions (an estimated 25 million in Europe alone) is worshiped here. The gate is quite different to Chinese gates and very distinctive with its ornate carving. Tfs!

very impressive entrance to the temple.
So rich in decorations and so different from European styles.
I suppose blue sky would help, but one cannot have perfect weather all the time.

I never had intention to visit this temple because people only talked about the rats, but when my guide let me there I was surprised, not with the rats, but with the beauty of the building and its pieces of art. nice view of the gate.
