Photographer's Note
After posting a number of photos from Lofoten, I wanted to change course and post something the exact opposite - cold to very hot.
And it doesn't get much hotter than chilli peppers!
We searched a long time for this chilli pepper farm. Technically the closest largest city would be Jodhpur, but its exact location is in Osian, a small town about a 30 min drive away. It was very hard to find, but we got there with a determined Taxi driver.
What's really interesting is how dark and grey looking the chilli's were. Perhaps its because they're not cleaned yet and they're covered in dust and dirt? I guess when we purchase them in stores they have more of a shine to them.
Also, we learned that the ladies collect and sort the peppers into 3 categories of piles. From top grade to the lowest grade.
I've included a WS photo of what the men do on the farm. The ladies sit and sort, the men stack the peppers into large bags and stomp on them to pack as many in as possible - you'll see that in the photo.
Hope you like this one

Hello Craig,
A fine daily life image from the fascinating country of India. Very well framed with the two ladies ideally placed. Excellent technical quality. I am just on the point of booking a tour to Southern India next February and look forward to seeing scenes like this for real.

Hello Craig,
How could you resist this!
The colours are so beautifully co-ordinated and fill the entire screen.
You have composed the photograph well, placing the focal ladies strongly in the frame, whilst still having good guide lines from the rows of chillies.
I'm sure they have learned not to rub their eyes or mouth, before washing their hands, after a working day.
Have a great w/e,
Bev :-)

Bonjour Craig
Une scène très étonnante de la vie quotidienne pour ces dames. C'est très impressionnant de voir tous ces piments qui sèchent sous le soleil très fort des Indes. Les dames sont parfaitement placées dans l'Image.

Hello Craig,
magnificent 3 pic.s on this subject. Now we know how the red bricks buildings in India painted with... Just my humor.
Fine chosen this one as main, amazing how the peppers were spread to dry, shown well on photo. The ladies at work bring thoughts of hard women labor in this country.
Intriguing photography.

Hello Craig,
A fine photo entirely to my taste (and you can interpret that anyway you like). It's graphically superb and practically all the colors match and balance each other perfectly. It is of course also a very interesting study of local culture and way of life. I wish every contribution to TE could be so instructive and pretty at the same time.
Best wishes,
Gert

Hello Craig
One can almost feel the heat of the sun and the chili peppers in this scene. The reds of the chilies and the reds of the womens clothing go hand in hand in this scene. Personally I like the 3rd photo in the workshop best as it is closer cropped and the contrast between chilies and women are more enhanced.
So you knew about this farm then, as you went in extra search for it?
have a great weekend
Daniel

Hi Craig,
Chilies peppers is not what I expected these to be, there is the makings of a helluva good curry there! Interesting shot, and interesting subject too, what a job - I imagine it's quite a surreal sight. I am guessingthe invisible woman works here too, thanks to those pink flip flops on the right :)
Cheers.

Dried Indian Chilli looses much of its sting, but does add a deep flavour and a nice colour to the food.
And they are expensive.
Lovely photograph of a part of our daily lives in India.
The rows of chilli spread for drying did offer a fascinating photo opportunity.
Thanks for sharing, Craig.

Hello Craig
An excellent double environmental portrait. You've given plenty of room around the working women to show not just their labours but also the expanse of chillies. I wonder how much further they extend! But it's the classic composition that really caught my eye.

Hi Craig,
Indeed a hot picture. Well framed. Effective in it's simplicity and presents a subject that cannot be found in many countries. Obviously the shiny ones on our stores haven't been dried under the hot sun.

Hi Craig,
It doesn't get much hotter than chili peppers! The Koreans also spread chilis out to dry in the sun like this. A superb daily life scene, with good sharpness and color. The 2 women in dark and light red shawls compliment the scene. Tfs.

Hi Craig,
This is one fine shot of life's daily grind for these two Indian women. They seem to be oblivious to the day's heat and it's just like a normal thing to bask in the heat of the sun doing things nicely and leisurely. This image is in stark contrast to what we see in big factories (at least on TV) in first world countries where big machines do the sorting and packing in seconds.
And yes, I would prefer the chilli's to be grey looking and not shiny. At least, at the back of my mind, I know that they did not waxed or put some other stuff so it would become glossy and more appealing for us when we go to the grocery.
Excellent sharpness and clarity and a perfect post for TE!
Have a nice day!

Hello Craig,
Three wonderful hot pictures of Jodhpur!
I admit that I've never seen so many chilli peppers together.
Excellent daily life-pictures, quite graphical and very attractive with the beautiful clothes of the women.

Hello Craig,
Very lovely colors here, even if the chiili peppers are not as bright as they usually are. They are nice to look at, but my stomach can't handle the spice! I like the small paths of dirt in between the bunches of peppers, and, of course, the women sorting them. :-)

Hi Craig!
I don't have any photos with peppers and they are so great:)! The composition is just perfect with the women there. Nice and very colourful!
I had to laugh reading your comment today, why do you think I had time to take all those photos:)? We had the car stuck in a puddle and the drivers had to solve the problem, even with a 4x4 it's not easy at all!

Ciao Craig
A very beautiful photo, out of the ordinary and well worth the effort to get to it. I like the graphism created by the piles of chillies and of course the rosy red tones as well as the poor hard-working ladies toiling away.
Cheers, thanks for sharing
