Photographer's Note
Railway Station and the Sadhus :
During a recent visit to the Kharagpur Railway station I happen to view this scene.A south India bound train is waiting on the platform with two sadhus in orange outfits taking rest on the platform and waiting for their train to arrive.I did not have a proper camera with me so took the shot with my I-phone 4S to share with you.The plight of uncleanliness with Indian railway stations is more or less uniform all over the country as is evident here too, where construction materials can be seen lying on the platform itself.Due to busy schedules I am not able to shoot photographs often and this shall continue for sometime before I shall be able to upload photos more often, so please do not forget me on Trekearth.
Some tidbits about Kharagpur Railway station :
Kharagpur Junction came up in 1898-99. On one side, Bengal Nagpur Railway’s Kharagpur-Cuttack line was opened on New Year’s Day in 1899. On the other hand, the opening of the bridge over the Rupnarayan River at Kolaghat, on 19 April 1900, connected Howrah with Kharagpur. Kharagpur was also linked with Sini the same year. The line was ready in 1898-99. The Kharagpur-Midnapore branch line was opened to traffic in 1901.Kharagpur has the world's third longest railway platform with a length of 1,072.5 metres (3,519 ft).It is the busiest junction station in South Eastern Railway Zone after Howrah. Hence, it is termed as Gateway to South Eastern Railway. It is also famous as a place where the present Indian Cricket Captain has worked as a Traveling Ticket Examiner(TTE)for sometime before he joined the Indian Team in 2004.

Dear Farhat,
A common scene on Indian public places whether it is Railway Station or Bus stop. Well spotted sadus. I like your pic but the sadhu should be a little close.
Thanks for sharing

Hello Farhat,
For a big Indian junction this doesn't look too busy at the moment. The relative emptiness makes the sadhus more obvious. I am fascinated by the posture of the sadhu lying down in the background. I wouldn't be surprised if he could actually sleep in such a position. This is a simple but nice scene from daily life, and considering it was taken with a mobile phone the quality is quite good.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello Farhat,
Your viewpoint creates an image of speed, though the train is stationary! Our eyes follow the converging lines rapidly!
You have captured a wealth of details to help us understand the context of an Indian railway station. I particularly like the inclusion of the sadhus.
Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)

Bonjour Farhat,
On voit que la modernité fait son apparition à petits pas dans cet endroit. Un beau contraste entre le train et l'homme au bâton qui attend près du tas de pierres.

Always vibrant scene on RR stations, Farhat, and no exception here.
Good view along the train, DOF and clarity well collected.
The one Sadhu stretched on the black boxes is drawing much attention on photo, though I do not see people noticing him. The other old-guy majestically sit in fine pose.
Great decision to take with your cell, intriguing moment collected.
Good night,

Hello Farhat,
I'm sure that "busy schedules" will not prevent you from taking photos, you'll keep noticing interesting scenes around you and your phone has proven to be very reliable as a camera. This scene is great and you captured it effectively. There's great perspective and clarity and an effective third repetition of the orange colour that strengthens the scene. The Sadhus are eye-catching and interesting, especially the one sleeping outside the "sleeper class" car. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great day,
Ourania

What happened to the reclined Sadhu making clear his 'wisdom'?!
In all likelihood, he couldn't wait for the sleeper class car!
Nice perspective full of exotism.

hi Farhat
Amazing depth in this everyday candid scene, and an excellent documentary on the condition of the stations. I note the construction materials, but apart from that it looks very clean, no litter and clean paths. The man sitting is a great element in your scene.

Sleeper class in Indian trains are only adaptated on short journeys if you tolerate the heat Fabbs. Two saddhus are waiting on the quay, India has the biggest railway system of the world, it's also a huge employer, regards

Hi Farhat
Nice informative commentary and an interesting shot. Of course, something like this is not new in the Indian railway stations. As for the cleanliness part, recently, there has been some active steps being taken to ensure improvement. But as they, old habits die hard!
Loved this photo, in spite of the camera limitations.
Have a great weekend.

Hi Farhat,
Worry not, you won't be forgotten. :) A fine result from your cell phone, and an image which just goes to show your instincts as a photographer, whether or not you have your camera available. It's funny, the man lying on the blocks was the first thing that caught my eye...must be the brighter orange attire. :) As you mention, this is a telling, documentary type image which relates the railway conditions. It's a wonderful depiction of daily life however, and is quite interesting just the same. A wonderfully deep perspective and details. Enjoy the weekend. Take good care.
Friendly wishes,
Jason

Howdy Farhat,
Interesting rail station scene, especially for me since I worked for the State of California Transportation Department's rail office, and worked on planning, design, construction and maintenance of stations.
Our stations and passenger cars are usually clean, but we continue to try increasing ridership. Too many Californians are in love with their cars and will not utilize trains or buses.
Thanks for sharing,
Cheers,

Hello Farhat,
This is a great photo for one that has been snapped by a phone. The colors and DOF are great. Except for the blown out sky, which most cameras would also yield, it is immaculate. More importantly, your composition has done justice to the scene with the two sadhus taking the predominant space. Quite well done, congrats & TFS! Looking forward to your more regular participation,

This is hilarious. Where else in the world would you see these brightly coloured men doing inhuman acrobatics in the middle of a railway station. What an amazing country and I'm surprised you got such a clean, clear shot, as I know I would have been laughing to hard and the camera would have shaken too much :) Excellent light, sharpness and depth. And an amazing composition.

Hello Farhat,
A beautiful daily life shot of an Indian railway station.
The Sadhus add a lot of interest to the picture.
I once spent half a night in an Indian station waiting for my train and I remember there's still a lot going on after most of the people have left.
Good composition and excellent depth.

Hello Farhat,
A photo much accomplished, as it is very well composed, nicely balanced graphically and it is a great presentation of the daily life on that place, with the bonus of that old man with the colourful turban or hat and the other one dressed in orange taking a nap in a strange position. The perfectionists may complaint about the overexposed white sky, but considering the circumstances, the quality is amazing and I would be much happy with it even if I was the photographer armed with a "real" camera.
