Photographer's Note

Today India’s celebrates her 67th Independence day & I post this picture as my humble dedication & deep reverence to all the brave soldiers of India. I took this picture in a place where our army is stationed, fighting adversities and harshest of weather conditions to maintain our independence, day in day out.

This is Kiari in Ladakh

From Leh we set out on an early morning drive on a broad well metal road traveling upstream along the Indus River. Crossing Upshi the road took us to Mahe still driving along the Indus River, which remained, on our right. The valley narrowed in a couple of places and steep rocky escarpments rise from alongside the road. The landscape in Ladakh offers so many colours...brown, green, yellow, red & here at Kiari, nature presented us with unusual purple coloured rocks.

Kiari is one of the big bases of Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) in Ladakh. It is maintained very and looks like a model village.

A message written out in stones at Kiari states – ‘Any Task, Any Place, Any Time, The Tougher The Better’. How very apt!
