Madras Light House is the famous landmark on the Marina Beach in Chennai, India. This tall tower (height 151 ft. or 41 m.)is facing the Bay of Bengal on the east coast of the Indian Subcontinent. The East Coast Constructions and Industries built this fourth light house and commissioned during 1976. The only lighthouse in India equipped with an elevator and tower station also houses the meteorological department. Madras Light House history is interesting:

1976 – Fourth lighthouse at Marina
1894 – Third lighthouse was equipped with lantern onto the dome of the new Madras High Court building.
1844 – Second lighthouse was erected during 1838-1844 on the north side of Fort St. George.
1796 – The first conventional lighthouse started functioning at the terrace of the officer's mess-cum-exchange building (the present day's Fort Museum at Fort St. George)
