Amritsar is the gem of Punjab - the holiest place for Sikhs. The atmosphere at the Golden Temple is almost undescribable - it is incredible calming and peaceful. With the very painful history for Sikhs (as a result of the partition) there is also a strong sense of pride, power and resilience here which is very inspiring. I lived a couple of hours from Amritsar and would travel here often with my friends/colleagues. We also stayed at the temple (they have a dorm for foreigners) or you can sleep on the tiles around the temple. This is my favourite place on earth and somewhere I would like to show my family and friends one day.
