Photographer's Note

Durga Puja (a festival of Bengalis) starts on the 19th of this month. Its a festival that celebrates the victory of good over evil (the victory of Goddess Durga over the demon Mahishashur).

Its quite a big event not only in Kolkata but also around Delhi and is celebrated in a big way. Pandals are set up and celebrations carry on for 4 days. Festivities involve loads of eating (the best part), pandal hopping, various competitions, including competitions about which pandal is the best in the colony or which is the best statue.

Artisans are called from Kolkata (Krishnonagar) every year, a few days before pujo to make these beautiful life-size sculptors of Durga, usually made in clay.

They make about 60 or more such sculptors for Durga Puja. The artisans usually go back to their hometown after Diwali.

This was taken in a mandir in CR Park by the name of Shiv Mandir / Kali Badi

P.S. took a little help on the title for this one!
