Lambadi Woman shopping at the main bazaar area in Bijapur. The Lambadis also called Banjaras are called the gipsies of India. Their origin is in Rajasthan from where they fled to Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and north of Karnataka. They live in settlements called "Tandas" not far from the towns. The women wear a very colourful dresses with plenty of small mirrorrs, silver coins, jewellery and many other ornaments.

Near Bijapur they live in five "Tandas" the biggest is called Arakeri where almost all the population belong to this particular ethnic group.
