Photographer's Note

The Araku Valley is also home to 19 tribes, which are ethnographically related to the tribes of Orissa, further north. Valmiki, Bagata, Khond and Rotia tribes inhabit this valley and other areas of this district. As this is declared to be a protected tribal area, things have remained moderately controlled and the tribal people are slightly better off here than in the other areas of India.
Danced to the sounds of the dhol and the dhamsa, tribal dances are lively, colourful and carry the rhythm of their daily lives and labours. A dance show is put up every day at the Government Tourist House in Araku to regale the tourists.
