Photographer's Note
I took this shot on my way to Gurudongmar Lake (at 18000 ft or ~5500m). I met this Indian soldier who was walking all by himself in that altitude with very thin air and difficult conditions. I have no idea how long he must have walked and where he was going.. He seemed to be in the middle of nowhere. I decided to capture him in the backdrop of the mountains that he was protecting for us, all Indians. The mountains separate India and China and he is one of the thousands who sacrifice so much to stay at this difficult place and do his duty.

Bonsoir Shaeri
une photo très impressionnante car la présence du personnage permet de se rendre compte de la taille de la montagne. Excellente lumière dans ce paysage.

Hi Shaeri,
Awe inspiring scenic. The scale of the shrouded peak is brought home by including the soldier in the foreground. I sorta wish he hadn't noticed you as he looks to be trying to step out of your way.
Cheers!

Hi, Shaeri -
Bit of a risk you took there; soldiers on duty often do not want to be photographed. But it is a great shot, showing the barrenness of the landscape and the size of the mountains.

Bonjour Shaeri,
Best regards.

Hi Shaeri,
The scenery is fabulous, with that majestic snow capped peak partially involved in clouds. The soldier gives scale and it's a unexpected lonely human presence in such a place. He must have a hard life, living in a so high and desert place.
Is or was this frontier line disputed as it is in the North West?
TFS, Regards, José.

Tu as fait là une très belle photo avec cet homme seul pour garder la montagne. J'aime les couleurs du premier plan et les nappes de brume qui font comme une écharpe au géant.

Hi Shaeri,
A true image of patriotism.
I don't look at the gorgeous mountains....
I don't look at the bright sun there...
I don't look at the massive clouds and the dreamy blue sky there..
I have to watch his steps... his heart... that really guards us... our motherland...our souls..
You did a real image with love for our land...
Truly a great shot..
With admirations...

Hi Shaeri,
The inclusion of the jawan has brought in a different dimension here. Wonedrful atmosphere here. But what stands out really is the brave and enduring patriot. They stay awake so that we can sleep.

Hi Shaeri, what a great photo. Love the composition and the colors. What it makes this photo great is the inclusion of a person, it gives the photo some life. I like how the clouds are sow low, it gives a 3 dimensional effect.

Shaeri,
guarding the infinity, the vastness ... Weird feeling to be up there in isolation and guarding a ficticious thing like a line on the map - a line that can't be seen up in this altitude and certainly doesn't make a lot of sense up there.
The inclusion of the soldier is the trick of this shot providing the scale of the small man and the HUGE mountain in the backdrop.

hello shaeri
a beautiful, crispy clear mountain portrait with well saturated sky (it seems you have not used a polarizing filter, but the sky still has come out beautifully blue despite the impressive altitude). good catch with the soldier too. i guess, i would have waited for him to come closer to make another shot :) but you never know with people holding gunds :))

Hi Shaeri,
With 5.500 meters the air must rarefy I think and the walk must be hard. For my part I think that I will have some difficulties !!! But this splendid landscape would make me forget them. I like much these clouds which surround the mountain and the character supplements the image well. Beautiful and interesting photograph, thank you Shaeri.

Wow Shaeri, what a spot to find a soldier on patrol. He must either love it up there, or he did something seriously wrong to get a posting like that.
With the inclusion of his picture with the mountain though the mountain takes on more than a scenic attribute. Perspectives are altered with the inclusion of the soldier, and not just perspectives of scale. With him there, the mountain and country around it is also seen as a political possession, one to be guarded. The scene of course is spectacular, one maybe that should be guarded. Very nice timely capture on your part.
Thanks, John

Namaste Shaeri. Finally I can put a face to the name. As for the photo, the place is stunning and eternal. As for borders, nationalities-it all seems so "disrespectful" to something as grand and pure as these timeless forms. It is a pity that our neighbours can be unneighbourly. Regards. Klaudio.

Hello Shaeri,
a most majestic view, showing us from quite close the beauty of these mountains...I like the mix of colors, the very deep blue sky (a tiny bit grainy ?), the snow capped top, the brown earth and the great light. This soldier is the cherry on the cake, gives the whole picture a sense of scale but also poses questions that are interesting, how does he feel about his assignment, where was he going, ...Well done!
