Photographer's Note
some said the high key was hurting the eye so i have taken a break..no pp on this one, low res and size...think the lens gives its best optical performance between f3 and f4..

The "flower women" at the back, this is their gang. their story, holding onto their traditions centuries old. Her story..last of the Caucasians..
Part of the community are also located in the Deosai plateau just across the Line Of Control (with Pakistan)in the Baltistan. They are predominantly Caucasoid. The last generation could communicate in a dialect of a Romanian language. Now fast disappearing.

Hi Sayeed,
I do like the natural aspect of your portrait. And the ladies in the back complete the frame quite adequately.

Hi Sayeed,
Nice portrait, although she's posing, she has a natural, candid look about her. DOF good as well, providing background material to fill the scene. Now, in your notes, you realy raised my interest --- romanian language ?? You know, romanian is latin based due to roman occupation of that portion of Europe, so I m baffled how these people speak a latin-based language so far away from former roman influence. Perhaps you can provide some clarification.
cheers, Cristian

Salam Sayeed
Lovely portrait in fine soft colors, again i like your style 50mm lens (digital or manual?) flat. Must be very attractive place with lovely people, Caucasian looked, descendants of Alexander the great, correct me if I am wrong Sayeed, my history is not good. Look into her eyes, certainly not native to this land originally.
Anayway I love her pleasant gentle smiles, her dress and total appearence. Thsk for sharing and useful infor, Hv anice wkend,

Again a sensitive and informative portrait, intelligently framed on the vertical. One nitpick - I'm not 100% convinced about the skin colour (white balance...) though God knows it's tricky at the best of times...
Best,

Hi Sayeed,
It's wonderful to see a normal photo from you :) Even though your high-key shots were very nice - somehow the humanity of a picture only appears in the color!
I really like the composition here - the position of the blurred figures of the other ladies is perfect. Good sharpness and framing.
Of course what interests me the most is your ethnographic note. I've heard of the Kalash people in the Chitral valley of Nuristan, but I believe they speak Dardic languages that are linked to Kashmiri. I think the Kalash claim descendency from the troops of Alexander - do these people do so as well?
It's just fascinating that these people could speak in a dialect of Romanian. On top of that, Romany (the language of gypsies), is related to punjabi. And on top of that, all north indian languages are directly related o european languages like romanian. So it's a high degree of connection between the Indo-european cultures.
Of course, the word "caucasian" is an ill-defined and outdated relic of the 19th century. It was based on the belief of some German anthropologist that people from the Caucasus mountains in Georgia were the most beautiful. Indeed any definition of race is problematic - are the borders based on skin color? If so, are Persians caucasian - how about Egyptians? At one point I think even all Indians were considered 'caucasian'.
By contrast, language families are a far better (although still problematic) manner of characterization of human groups.
Do you have any more info on the group? - I would love to know more.
Cheers,
biswaroop

Plain, simple and honest, like this woman's face.
A shot of unsophisticated kindness. Is there another kind?
One love.

Salam Sayeed,
An impressive portrait shot. Very good aperture management which makes the background blur. Well done!

Hi Sayeed,
You posted very interesting and informative pictures from this village, probably you intended to say that they speak "Romani" (Gypsy) language that is very different than the Romanian.
Romanian language has a lot of words from Latin and Dacian. It is similar with other old Europe languages, Italian, French, Spanish.
"Romani" and "Romanian" are similar words, but very different meanings. I know that is confusing for many people, even in Europe.
best wishes!
Cosmin
