Photographer's Note
Lord Shiva also known as Mahadeva and Manimahesh is worshiped through out India in many forms from benevolent to fearsome ones.
The main iconographical attributes of Shiva are the third eye on his forehead, the snake Vasuki around his neck, the crescent moon adorning, the holy river Ganga flowing from his matted hair, the trishula as his weapon and the damaru as his instrument.
Shiva is usually worshiped in the aniconic form of Lingam.
This photo shows a series of Lingams with a snake made of copper curled around one of the Lingam, constructed several years back on a platform outside one of the Shiva temples in the Chaurasi Temple complex in Bharmour.
