Photographer's Note
Dhonuchi- this is a dance performed during the evening arati in Durga Puja. The Dhonuchi on the ashtami (the eight day of the puja) is said to be the best. Today is the ashtami, if i don't get trampled by the crowds, I shall definitely click and then post a picture of todays Dhonuchi sometime tomorrow.
I'll tell you whatever little i know about it- for more queries and answers, ask our Bong friends : Avishek, Arnab, Kausik.
The earthen pots seen in the picture have burning coconut shells (that's why the smoke). The clay pots are obviously very hot and the only way to hold them is from the bottom (see man's hands). Well, we do have people perform tricks like holding it in their mouth like he is (i think, when you really do it from your heart, it doesn't matter how hot the pot it; its all about faith & goddess Durga i guess:) The drums are constantly rolling (see background) and dhonuchi is performed to its beat. The sound of the drums and the sight of the dance being performed is quite an experience in itself. I was getting goose-bumps while watching it. It was magnificent.

A very nice TE shot IMO. You did well here to share your Durga Pujo experience with everyone around the world. And in double quick time. A commendable effort to my mind. Though don't send your queries this way... I wouldn't know much more than this nice little note posted here by Smrithi. :)

Interesting pic, I like the slight tilt and dynamic subjects, I do wish we could see more of his face and that there was less DoF, but still really nice Smrithi!

Very interesting photo, Smrithi, with quite an absorbing atmosphere (that is well supported by your note). The guy doing this "act" with the clay pots sure is the center of attention, and the smoke coming out of them is good for your shot - surprisingly, the fact that we cannot see the drummer's head works out fine as well. Lastly, the tilt also supports the dynamic character of the scene. Good one.

Belle capture Smrithi, la photographie est belle, la composition est super mais peut-être tu aurais du forcer un peu sur le contraste. Amitié/jr

Dynamic pose you've caught here for this celebrator. I pity about the boy on the right, which I fin a bit distracting, and the contrast is a bit on the low side. But generally a very good illustration of your interesting note.

Even without the sound can I image the feeling of watching this dance and scenary -I think the angle you got that dance makes the shot - Thanks Smrithi

Hey, your shots are getting more and more exciting. You are really our on-site docu-photographer of daily (and not so daily) life in India. This one has no faults - it focuses on the subject, there's lot of movement and action and you even got a musician in. Great.

Good catch of a decisive moment. I like the dynamism of this shot. Could be sharper, & exposure is a little off, but still a superb shot. Well done!

Great framing and I think the slight tilt on the picture adds to the dynamic feel. Very Good.

V ery nice..the slight blur makes it very "dreamy" yet dynamic. This will look very good in BW, IMHO.

I like the vibrancy you have captured here in this event. It's tilted but here it adds to the action of the scene. PErhaps a shallower depth of field would enhance it a bit more. It puts me in the scene, though, hearing the drums, smelling the smoke and just sharing all that the senses have to experience here.

people really seemed to like this one, but I missed it. Seems a little noisy actually, probably the best you could do with the give light.

Hi Smrithi
I chanced upon your gallery & liked your shots. Being a Bong, I can't but feel happy about this image of yours, in which you have captured the moment so very well. A wee bit problem in light (exposure) & sharpness, but that doesn't take much away from your capture of this special moment
Regards
Angshuman
