Photographer's Note
Durga Puja (a festival of Bengalis) starts on the 19th of this month. Its a festival that celebrates the victory of good over evil (the victory of Goddess Durga over the demon Mahishashur).
Its quite a big event not only in Kolkata but also around Delhi and is celebrated in a big way. Pandals are set up and celebrations carry on for 4 days. Festivities involve loads of eating (the best part), pandal hopping, various competitions, including competitions about which pandal is the best in the colony or which is the best statue.
Artisans are called from Kolkata (Krishnonagar) every year, a few days before pujo to make these beautiful life-size sculptors of Durga, usually made in clay.
They make about 60 or more such sculptors for Durga Puja. The artisans usually go back to their hometown after Diwali.
This was taken in a mandir in CR Park by the name of Shiv Mandir / Kali Badi
P.S. took a little help on the title for this one!

Nice one Smrithi and very timely too. A good composition with all the pink hands and the clay figures at the bottom. This would be even better in natural light IMO.

Funny title, and good PoV for this shot. Certainly a lot of hands. I agree with Avis, though I see that that may not have been possible.

Handsome indeed and a lot of handsome artwork - would it mean that the statues only used once - ok seems so due to the competition. Thanks Smrithi for sharing this special view from your traditional festivals.

Well composed, but it has some minor technical imperfections, which I've tried to fix in a workshop. Hope you don't mind. But this mage is very suited to TE as it tells the viewer much about Indian culture & religion & Art etc.

Good title - and funny image. Half spooky and half comic. Full of intriguing details but no clear composition. I guess you just shot the scene without contemplating the result too much. It is good though.

This is post modern and surreal, Smrithi! I love the randomness and how you've filled the frame with the patterns. Fun stuff!
