An excerpt from A tryst with Kanchenjunga
Soon we were above the clouds and the view was breathtaking. We passed an old monastery and reached an army checkpost, where we furnished the necessary details. This would be a ritual that we would have to perform at more places over the next couple of days. Then we passed Megma, Tonglu and finally reached Tumbling at 4 PM just in time to witness a spectacular sunset from above the clouds. Kanchenjunga still eluded us.
Tumbling is a small settlement on the India-Nepal border. The trek to Sandakphu makes forays into Nepal and brings you back to India. Tumbling is the first settlement in Nepal and Gairibas is on the Indian side of the border.
Sandakphu is located on Singhalila ridge on eastern India-Nepal border and is the Amphitheatre for Everest, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse and Makalu, 4 of the 5 highest peaks of the world(all except K2).It was from Sandakphu and its vicinity that Everest was first sighted in an era when Kanchenjunga was thought to be the highest mountain in the world.

aah! this is really good. a view from top makes me feel like flying. colors of the setting sun spreads magic on the sky screen. superb catch.
