Photographer's Note
Legendary Indian musician, Tansen, who is considered the greatest singer-musician ever born in India was born around 1505 AD near Gwalior. Though a Hindu by birth, Tansen was also a believer in Islam. He was a disciple of Sufi Saint Sheikh Muhammad Ghaus, and after his death the great musician was buried near his spiritual master’s mazaar. According to local folklore, the Sufi Saint also granted the boon of a son to Tansen’s parents, and is therefore venerated as Tansen’s janma daata (the giver of life). According to another version, Mohammad Ghaus was an Afghan prince.
Whatever be the truth, the mazaar (tomb) of Mohammad Ghaus suggests that he was a man held in great esteem. Designed in the typical Mughal style, the tomb is a grand structure that arrests one’s attention. Built in the shape of a large square with hexagonal towers at its corners, the whole building is surmounted by a large dome, which was earlier covered with blue glazed tiles.
Built in late 16th century, the walls of the building have elaborate carved-stone latticework which covers all sides of the building. Its hexagonal pillars and screens using pierced stone technique are simply marvelous, with each panel having a different design. The opulence of this intricate lattice work left me awestruck. Looking out from the semi dark to dark interiors to blinding afternoon light outside, I felt I was looking at fine lacework....perhaps you’ll agree.

I liked the other a lot, Angshu...here it goes the critic I manage to safe:
Very nice, Angshu. The flowers make a very good foreground and at the same time (and that's the best here) make a wonderful connection bettween the left side and the right side, giving a new interpretation of the gracious shapes and lines. The result is very interesting - as if it was a rino or other strange creature (at left) with two round horns pointing to the sky at right. I like a lot this creative composition.

This one I know well and you also must know that I love it. The artwork is most impressive and the graphism is amazing. Great exposure and sharpness. Congratulations.

A tribute to Aadiil maybe.
The lattice stonework is incredible, so intricate and often from one block of stone! You have postioned yourself very well to take advantge of the silver and gold light. What would have happened if you had stepped back and managed full symmetry?

Hi Angshuman,
The different patterns in the windows are asset to the composition. The point of view is allowing to see the details and colors of the different patterns. The picture is clear and sharp. The way the light is coming trought is putting the interior in the shadow. Have a nice day.

Hello Angshuman,
C'est une très belle composition avec une excellente maîtrise de lumière.
La composition est parfaite grâce à la très belle harmonie entre les deux fenêtres et la bonne mise en valeur de la finesse du travail.

We can only imagine the effort involved in making something like this all those years ago. The artwork is stunning and taking the image from inside-looking-out accentuates the patterns and lacework perfectly; more so than the previous exterior shot. Well done

Hi Angshu,
What an amazing work, I can hardly imagine how much work it took to carve these delicate screens. It's interesting how the light on the left is golden. A lovely work.

Fantastic cross-light! You have taken advantage skilfully of the graphism of the silhouettes of these impressive windows and its decorative wealth to create a very beautiful composition with a great aesthetic level, a nice light and a few golden tones.

Impressive!!!!
Hello Angshu, this lace is superb! I always wonder how it was possible to get such details usint stone.
Your photo is full of graphism.
The difference between the part in the front and to the left, thanks to the light, is very interesting.
There is an important default of persepctive to the right. I don't know if it could have been corrected or not. At least, my abilities would not be sufficient I am afraid, otherwise I would have tried a ws because it is a little bit distracting (at least as far as I am concerned).
Anyway, it is a superb composition!

Marianne

Hello Mr. B,
Your note informs this photograph perfectly. Mr. Tansen was not the first, nor will he be the last to want to be safe all fronts — worshiping in different faiths. Incidentally, the word "mezar" is a grave or tomb in Turkish, indicating a common origin (or at least, that the Turkish is a derivative in part from Arabic, as well as Central Asian). The photograph is extraordinary. It is sharp and well conceived and flawlessly implemented.
Warm regards,
Bulent
