Photographer's Note

We departed the school, taking a roundabout route back to Alipura. It quickly became clear why we were riding in jeeps. The road was not a road, but little more than a dirt track, and the going was slow and uncomfortable. After 3.5 kilometres, in which the vehicle almost overturned, we reached a shrine in the middle of nowhere, dedicated to the goddess Kali - the dark mother. She is the ferocious form of Devi, goddess of time and change. She sublimates your ego and liberates you from the endless cycle of death and rebirth. Oh, yes, we eventually reached the hotel in Alipura. Geo coordinates in Google Earth for the Kali Shrine are N and E.

The remainder of the day was at leisure. I seem to recall enjoying another Ayurvedic, full-body, oil massage. Early evening we headed back west to Jhansi in tempos to catch the overnight Bundelkhand Express to Varanasi.
