Photographer's Note
Mt Kazbek (5047m.), and the 14th century Gergeti Trinity Church below, taken after sunset from a guesthouse in Kazbegi. The church is at 2170m. altitude, the guesthouse is at approximately 1800m. The sun had set behind the mountain, so the sky came out brighter than I would have preferred. Before this photo was taken I, the landlady, her daughter, her daughters fiancee, and a turkish speaking georgian taxi driver consumed at least several gallons of Kazbegi brand beer, one bottle of vodka, two bottles of georgian wine, 2 bags of pistachios, fried chicken, local salad and beet soup, they sure know how to host a dinner party. I was in no condition to wait for the sky to get darker. I will add the morning after photos (of Kazbegi, not the hangovers) to workshop.
Edit : 70mm focal length used.

Hello Tan, so, where are the hangover pics? Next week maybe? Delightful intro:D
ahhh, I love how that church is lit up. The only bit of light in the whole compo is there, concentrated in a little spot on the mountain. That's why, like you said, a darker sky would have been even better.
We can still see a bit of red or orange just over the mountain on the left...so that makes it an official sunset pic:D
You must feel pretty lonely on top of that mountain...looks pretty wild from here.

MC

Hi again Tan... What a photo full of magic. I am facing my first 5000 mountain (exactely tomorrow in one month I´m due to be at the top of the Kilimanjaro) so this photo is quite touchfull for me. Beside this tiny light on the temple making the difference with the rest of the landscape... Oh! It´s just superb.
About the note, very funny, and I hope the drive did not drive you after such a pantagruelican dinner... Take care and thanks for bring us the unknown Georgia.

Hello Tan, this is really great travel shot from Georgia. This version is definitely the better one than the other 2 you've posted in workshop. It has very mysteries feel and the church really stands out against those mountains. I've done small workshop on it too to crop the lower part of the hill away to focus on that beautiful scene. Thanks for sharing photos from not that usual place. Well done. Lucie

Hi Tan,
Amazing shot...simple but so strong! I love the lit up church...it looks indeed like a beacon (reminds of Lord of the Rings). Excellent POV with great contrast and great details! What a place to be able to visit!
Great work, Tan!
Greetings,
Ann
PS: The workshop photo are stunning as well, but I like this one just a little better due to the lit up church!

Impressive scales contrasts. That's very well composed and done. The day shot (in the WS) are useful too to enjoy the place and I agree, in the day, the church looks like hidden !

The use of a telephoto lens really makes the mountain look huge as it towers above that tiny church. I like how the orange light on the church contrasts with, and compliments the blue color of the mountain. I like the workshop Lucinka did also.
Take care,

This is a very surprising shot - the beacon is too small to be seen in the thumbnail, but when you open the larger version you can see it magically appear, and totally change the shot! I like the comparison between the massive mountain and the apparently tiny church - great job with all the drink you had!

Hi Tan. The church stands out like a little, brilliant gem against silky shades of blue. Wonderful panorama creating a sense of remoteness, devotion and solitude. Enjoyed reading your intro, sounds like a frontier lifestyle- rough, tough and hospitable to strangers. Regards. Klaudio.

Un bel endroit..où l'on sait bien vivre apparemment!J'aime les tons de la photo et cette petite église éclairée qui se détache du reste de l'image.

Hi Tan
This one is more mysterious than the WSs. Great contrast between the tiny lightened church and the huge mountain.

Hi Tan,
It's really magnificent! I like the blue ambiance, the misty atmosphere, the light cold, the vastness of this wild space and... the small light wich talk us about human life and work. It's quite impressive your sight over this beautiful place. Amazing shot! Congratulations!
Regards,
Angel.

Hi Tan,
the illuminated church is very attractive in the dark scenary however I prefer the shot taken in the morning lights which bring us more details of that amazing mountain. Your workshop is for every tastes. Well done!

Hi, Tan
Really impressive view. The two tiny spots of light against the enormous mountains make this image great (otherwise it would be pointless). A vivid feeling of greatness and wide spaces here.

Tan, the fact that you could find the shutter release is sufficient for my praise. What a story, and the picture is great as well. Very well seen (maybe) and captured (certainly).

Hi Tan
Amazing shot & a fitting title to the picture. The contrast is fantastic in this shot as we compare with the morning shot, where the church, as you rightly said become camouflaged.

Hi Tan,
Well worth the hangover I think .. the light of the the little church creates a few intense pixels in this powerful dim place .. wondrous place .. unique view. I like it far better than the daylight versions ..
take care,

Wow, what a majestic mountain, The warm colors of the church beautifully contrast with the coldness of the mountain and the clear sky. I guess you were lucky when catching such a great weather, I would expect the mountain to be in clouds that time. Well done. Michael

hi Tan,
A very impressive image. It's really neat to compare man's creation (the church) against the nature's creation in such a drastic way. This is what I truly call a "contrast".
Nice shot,
TFS as always,
Behrang
