Photographer's Note

This island is right on top of a mountain between Laohuzui and Panzhihua within Yuanyang area. In order to create this beautiful scene, mankind has to labor years after years. The reward is not only the crop; it's the beauty spreading from mountain to mountain. Laohuzui consists of more than 450 hectares of terrace paddies, some of them look like two galloping horses and an image of a hiding dragon and crouching tiger. It is the superb model of “the carving of the earth” with the most treacherous slopes, the most magnificent splendor, and the most splendid terrace paddies of Yuanyang.

We returned to Yuanyang and were lucky to shot this picture on the second week of the lunar-calendar year. Unfortunately, without the ability of speaking Chinese language, we were not able to communicate with local people to find out how did they manage to get water up here, or to ask for their secret of irrigation.

Hopefully our humble contribution will help promote this destination as UNESCO Cultural Heritage Site, as Nhiem and I will join in this theme.

Please enjoy and critique. Thanks.
