Photographer's Note
Now from ancient to contemporary architecture...
Kunming hosted China's 7th National Disabled Games from the 13th to the 19th of May 2007. This brand new stadium on the eastern outskirts of the city was built with these events in mind. It was a significant sporting event in China, with the Olympics coming up in 2008, and the chance for sporting organisations to get better prepared for the Beijing Paralympics.
The new stadium is quite impressive, and there are some interesting sculptures on the grounds around it. Whether Kunming, the capital of the overall rather impoverished province of Yunnan, really ought to spend whatever large amount of cash on building this is debatable (I'm sure the money could have been better spent), but at least it's nice to look at.

Hi Andre,
Interesting photo. I like the way you've used sepia for it. Makes it more dramatic.
I travelled around China in 2004 and saw a lot of the work they are doing for the leadup to the Games and it can be a contrast to the poverty in many places. At least it gives people work.
