Photographer's Note
While travelling on the trams today, I thought I would try and take a photo that showed their age!
Most of Hong Kong's trams today belong to the 4th generation and were designed with enclosed upper-deck. They have been in use since 1930.
This photo of a pressure gauge was taken at the turn-stile entrance at the back of the tram.
The Hong Kong Tramways web site contains a museum section with some great historical photos over the past 100 years of service.
The tram is the most economical mode of transportation in Hong Kong. Regardless of distance, only HK$2.00 will be charged for each adult passenger. Senior citizens and children can enjoy a lower fare at HK$1.00.
The total travel time from Kennedy Town to Shau Kei Wan (West to East) is 80 minutes. A similar taxi ride would cost approx. HK$100 and take 20 minutes.

Hi Andrew - great closeup of the pressure gauge - I like how at the same time we can see the aged state of the device and machinery, but also see it being in service and still performing its duty. Great worn-out textural details, a very interesting capture.
Thanks for including the link to the HK trams website - the historical photos on the museum page are really cool.

Andrew, Nice shot showing the anciennity very well. Great sharpness and details.
I wonder if it would have been stronger in B/W?

I like it very much, Andrew. The old dial, the dirt and the rust are well comoposed and create a great industrial pic. Very good.

Very good shot showing the age. If you didn't tell us it was in use I'd think it was something abandoned. But since it is in use it really has a very reliable feel to it. Like an old workhorse, perhaps. Beaten and worn but still good. Very clear and sharp, too, showing us its age. Nice job.

This shot gives me memories of an old similar instrument of mine - wonder if I still can find that :-) Great details and "aged with dust" you got here - yes the world was different 74 years ago - thanks Andrew for sharing this fine work and the note to explain.

Nice picture Andrew! The meter is very sharp and well detailed. I like the way that we see the action of time on the pressure gauge.
Simple but excellent composition.

Very well captured detail. It shows well the aging of the equipment. I also like the cold and the almost BW tones as it reinforces the industrial feeling of the image. Very nice border.

Beautiful close up.
Sharp details and good composition.
I was about to propose a sepia WS but as it is already done...
I both like the colour and B&W version .
Great shot
