Photographer's Note
This shot was taken in a buddhist temple in South China.Every lunar new year's eve this temple becomes such a hot spot as people crowd in and pay their respect to the Buddha for better luck in the year to come.So one can see so many people full of practical purposes searching for super-natural reinforcement. But this old lady in the forefront with prayer's beads around her wrist and piety in her eyes was an exception. Her serenity and devotion made a sharp contrast to the silhouette of people moving busily around her.

Out of this world, Rick! Astounding shot, both interms of composition/framing and emotional impact. Sharp focus on the old lady on the right, and then that dream world down the corridor. Straight masterpiee. I don't mind being the first to congratulate you, my friend, but I HOPE I'M NOT THE LAST!
Cheers, Francis

Wonderful shot and your framing is simply gorgeous. I really like how you place all the focus and attention on the older woman, but the people in the background also contribute a lot and make this image even more special. The overexposure of the sky itself seems to have a deeper meaning attached as well, this being shot at a temple. Anyway, at the end of the day you've managed to capture quite an intriguing scene. Good work!

Hello Rick!
first, welcome to TE!
next, you have started with a wonderful post. the POV and DOF makes this shot special. the composition allows the eyes to hover from the far lighted alley across to the right to the old lady, the overexposure is an asset to this shot, and the darkness on the right tells the story through.
well done.

Great shot. People in back ground makes it fantastic. I haven't got much to say, because the previous people up above left all the messages which I wanted to say...

Rick, after the shot like this I really have an appetite for more. Shot of poeple in the laneway and overexposed sky isn't all that unusual, but including the lady and playing with dof makes it very special. Wonderfull image.
Welcome to tE

Hi Rick
first : welcome to TE
now about your photo :
waou !
It is very beautiful, is well contrasted between the external world and of the old lady.
the camera angle is excellent, you place yourself below this woman. Humility is quite present on this photograph at all the points of view.
thank's a lot

Great B&W shot! All of its elements makes a great photo, the lady on the right side, the background of a narrow street with people, the slightly tilted view. I agree with you about the choice of B&W, it plays much better with the light on her expression and the blurred image of the people in the background

Can't believe I didn't find this one earlier, excellent juxtaposition and an interesting slice of life from an older China stepped in history. Well timed and powerful portrait.

Another great photo. You have a great eye and I like your use of black and white. I noticed you use a FG. Great little camera.

Excellent framing here. I like the blurred silhouette in the background and the focus on the woman's face. Ross
