Photographer's Note
Located at the northwestern part of Guilin, Reed Flute Cave is the largest and perhaps the most spectacular of the karst caverns in the city. Hidden half way up a mountain, it received its name from the reed that grows near the entrance and makes excellent flutes.
The cave is known as a "palace of natural art." Along its zigzag path are unusual stalactites and stalagmites which, under colored lighting, look like coral, agate, amber, or jade -- a wonderland of formations resembling orchards, gardens, or whatever else you care to imagine.
The Reed Flute Cave consists of the Guanming Mountain, the Fanglian Ridge, and the Fanglian Lake. More than 1,000,000 years ago, it was the bottom of sea, and it later raised above the water because the moving crust.
Today, it is a special natural scene. It is a 500 meters long narrow cave, with its top width 90 meters. Beautiful views of stalactites are everywhere in the cave: the Overlapped Coral, the Flowers Hidden in the Bell, the Rabbit in the Moon Palace, the Blue Shining Sunrise, and the Zigzag Dragon Listen to the Flute.
Besides the stalactites, there's a grass named "reed" living at the gate. It is said people made flute from the grass, and this is why the cave got its name "Reed Flute Cave". Knowing about this, many tourists would try to find the grass after visiting the cave and hoping to enjoy the beautiful voice of the grass.
There are more than 70 calligraphic works written on the wall of the cave since the 8th year of Emperor Zhenguan of Tang Dynasty (792A.D.). There are still clearly visible today. They are valuable historic relics of the writers feeling, the knowledge of science, and the important incidents in history.
The cave is connected with a beautiful fairy tale: a long time ago, there was a crack in the sky. In order to fill the crack, fairy maiden Nuwa found many stones to smelted and put them in the crack. She was too busy and later left a stone in the human world, that is today's Reed Flute Cave.

Witaj Monika,
Świetnie Ci się udało to zdjęcie z Jaskini Trzcinowego Fletu. Dobra ostrość i kolory. Masz może jeszcze coś z tej jaskini? Trochę to kolorowe podświetlenie kiczowate, ale robi wrażenie. Pozdrawiam
Małgorzata
